Houston man sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for leading multi drug trafficking operation

Houston, Texas – A major federal drug trafficking case has resulted in a lengthy prison sentence for a Houston man who prosecutors say played a leading role in a multi-year operation involving a wide range of narcotics.

Acting U.S. Attorney John G.E. Marck announced that 33-year-old Cyrus Boujabadi has been sentenced to 240 months in federal prison. Boujabadi previously pleaded guilty on June 6, 2025, to possessing MDMA with intent to distribute and engaging in a monetary transaction involving criminal proceeds. Following his prison term, he will serve five years of supervised release, and the court also imposed a $5,000 fine.

The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Ewing Werlein Jr., who reviewed additional evidence that highlighted Boujabadi’s leadership role in the operation. According to court findings, he acted as an organizer and used others to carry out drug deliveries in an effort to shield himself from law enforcement. Investigators also determined that he used his residence as a base for distributing drugs and maintained drug trafficking as an ongoing source of income. Authorities further noted that he possessed a firearm connected to his illegal activities.

Multi-year operation uncovered through investigation

Court records show that from January 2019 through July 2023, Boujabadi worked with others to distribute several types of drugs, including MDMA, methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, psilocybin, and DMT. Prosecutors said he coordinated transactions using a messaging application, directing associates to deliver drugs while accepting payments through both cash and electronic methods.

During the investigation, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Boujabadi’s residence, uncovering a large amount of illegal substances. Officers seized meth, MDMA tablets, Xanax, marijuana, DMT, THC oils, edibles, and psilocybin mushrooms. In addition to the drugs, authorities recovered trafficking equipment, cash, and cryptocurrency, all believed to be tied to the illegal operation.

Further investigation revealed that Boujabadi used proceeds from drug sales to benefit himself financially. Officials said he deposited the money into accounts under his control and used those funds to purchase multiple properties in Tennessee. Those properties have since been forfeited as part of the case.

Authorities also confirmed that Boujabadi was not acting alone. To date, five additional individuals connected to the conspiracy have already been convicted and sentenced for their roles in the operation.

Boujabadi will remain in custody as he awaits transfer to a facility within the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Officials say the case highlights the continued efforts by federal law enforcement to dismantle organized drug trafficking networks and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
