Fort Worth begins accepting applications for federal repair grants to help residents impacted by 2021 winter storm

Fort Worth, Texas – More than four years after the devastating 2021 winter storm, Fort Worth is taking steps to help residents who continue to face hardships from the damage. City officials announced that applications are now being accepted for the Homeowner Assistance Repair and Rehabilitation Program (HARRP), which provides federal funding to assist with critical home repairs.
The February 2021 storm remains one of the worst in Texas history. Temperatures dropped below zero across North Texas, leading to widespread power outages, burst pipes, severe property damage, and tragically, numerous deaths. Even years later, many households are still struggling to restore their homes and replace damaged systems.
The HARRP program is designed to ease that burden. Funds will cover a wide range of essential repairs, including roofing, plumbing, electrical work, heating and cooling systems, and structural improvements. By addressing these needs, the program aims to create safer and more stable living conditions for affected families.
Applications are open now, with a deadline of November 25. Priority will be given to low- and moderate-income households, with at least 70 percent of the funding reserved for these groups. City officials stress that this requirement guarantees the greatest support to those most affected by the storm.
For Fort Worth residents still living with the storm’s lingering effects, the grant program represents a chance to finally move forward. Local leaders encourage eligible homeowners to apply as soon as possible, noting that funding can make a life-changing difference for those who have been waiting years for repairs.
The city’s announcement reflects both the long-lasting impact of the 2021 storm and the continued efforts to help families rebuild their homes and their lives.
