Fort Worth invites residents to serve as volunteer coaches for upcoming youth recreational leagues

Fort Worth, Texas – The Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department is calling on community members to step up and serve as volunteer youth sports coaches for upcoming recreational leagues, emphasizing the powerful role volunteers play in shaping positive experiences for young athletes.
Officials say volunteer coaches help create a fun, safe, and encouraging environment where children can learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence while developing lifelong skills. The department stresses that no prior coaching experience is required. Training, guidance, and ongoing support are provided to ensure volunteers feel prepared and supported.
“Our volunteer coaches are the backbone of our youth sports programs,” said Isaiah McFadden, youth sports coordinator. “They help create a safe, supportive space where kids can learn the fundamentals of sports, build confidence and develop lifelong skills. Whether you have coached before or are brand new, we provide the tools and training to help you succeed.”
How to Become a Volunteer Coach
To ensure a safe and positive experience for participants, all volunteer coaches must complete a clearance process before working with youth. This includes submitting a volunteer application, passing a background check, and completing required coach development courses.
Once approved, volunteers receive several benefits in appreciation of their service. Coaches may enroll up to three children in the program at no cost, receive a free Gold Tier Fitness Membership valued at $190, and gain access to one free hour of practice space each week. Volunteers also receive an official youth sports coach badge and a youth sports volunteer T-shirt.
Sports Programs and Upcoming Seasons
Volunteer opportunities are available year-round across a variety of programs. Upcoming leagues include:
-
Spring Flag Football (March 21–May 2) for ages 6U–12U
-
Spring Tee Ball (April 18–May 9) for ages 6U
-
Summer Recreational Volleyball (June 6–July 25) for girls ages 10U–18U
Additional opportunities include fall soccer and winter basketball programs.
Interested volunteers can register through the City of Fort Worth Volunteer Programs portal. Officials encourage community members, parents, and sports enthusiasts to consider volunteering, noting that coaches help foster confidence, build character, and create meaningful memories for young participants.
By volunteering, residents not only support youth development but also strengthen the sense of community through teamwork, mentorship, and shared experiences on and off the field.
