Governor Greg Abbott joins AT&T to distribute laptops to 150 graduating seniors in Los Fresnos school district

Los Fresnos, Texas – Greg Abbott joined representatives from AT&T to place new laptops into the hands of graduating seniors from Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District. The event marked both an investment in the future of Texas students and a tribute to a historic milestone in communications.

A total of 150 graduating seniors received laptops during the special distribution ceremony held in Los Fresnos. The devices were provided through a partnership involving AT&T, Compudopt, and the Los Fresnos CISD Education Foundation. The giveaway was also organized to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first telephone call, a technological breakthrough that transformed communication across the world.

Governor Abbott attended the event to recognize the achievements of the graduating class and to highlight the state’s continued investment in career and technical education.

The reason why we’re here is because 150 seniors have demonstrated that they’re either ready to go to college or ready to go straight into a career,” said Governor Abbott. “Over the past two years, we’ve invested $7 billion in career and technical education, knowing how important that is for our students, for their future. We are going to be handing out laptops to 150 seniors, seniors who have demonstrated the brand of excellence you are able to achieve here in the state of Texas.”

Laptops Distributed to Support Student Futures

The laptop distribution was designed to support students as they move forward into the next stage of their lives. Whether those graduates plan to attend college, begin technical training, or enter the workforce, the devices are intended to give them a practical tool that can help them continue learning and stay connected.

Leaders from AT&T emphasized that the event also represented a celebration of the company’s long history in communications technology. From the earliest telephone systems to modern digital networks, the company noted that innovation has remained at the center of its mission.

We are honored to join Governor Abbott today in Los Fresnos to put 150 computers in the hands of local high school students and celebrate 150 years of communications innovation,” said Leslie Ward, AT&T South Region President. “What began with a single phone call in 1876 has become a way of life – and AT&T has been there every step of the way at the forefront of connecting people and businesses. We cannot predict what the next 150 years will bring, but we do know this: whatever comes next, we’ll be the ones connecting you to it.”

Local education leaders also praised the initiative, noting that community partnerships play a powerful role in helping students succeed.

The Los Fresnos CISD Education Foundation is where dreams meet determination,” said foundation chair Adan Garcia. “Our vision is a district where every individual’s aspirations are met with unparalleled support, and today’s laptop distribution is a great example of how we can support local students. We appreciate Governor Abbott, AT&T, and Compudopt for their support of Los Fresno students and for the 150 years of innovation that brings us here today.”

Several local and state officials attended the event alongside the governor. Those present included Adam Hinojosa, Janie Lopez, AT&T Texas division President Leslie Ward, AT&T South Texas division Vice President Adrian Quintanilla, and foundation leaders from the school district.

For the graduating seniors receiving the laptops, the moment represented more than a ceremonial handoff. It symbolized recognition of their hard work and a tangible resource to help them navigate the next chapter of their lives. Supporters of the initiative said providing students with technology access can open doors to education, employment, and opportunity in an increasingly digital world.

As the ceremony concluded, the laptops served as both a celebration of past innovation and a hopeful sign for the future, placing powerful learning tools into the hands of students preparing to shape the next generation of progress.
