Fort Worth announces service changes and public facility closures ahead of Juneteenth celebrations

Fort Worth, Texas – Fort Worth residents should prepare for several service and facility changes as the city observes the Juneteenth holiday on June 19. While many government offices and public buildings will be closed for the day, essential services and some recreational facilities will continue operating.

City officials announced that most municipal offices, including City Hall, will not be open on June 19 in recognition of the federal holiday. However, emergency services will remain available and continue operating without interruption to ensure public safety throughout the day.

Closures and services affected by the holiday

Residents who depend on city services will see a mix of closures and normal operations. One of the biggest concerns for many households, solid waste collection, will not be affected. Garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulk waste pickup will take place according to regular schedules. City officials are reminding residents to place their carts at the curb by 7 a.m. on their normal collection day to avoid missing service.

While residential collections will continue, the city’s four Drop-Off Stations and the Environmental Collection Center will be closed for the holiday. Residents needing assistance with waste-related services can contact the city for support.

Animal Care & Control facilities will also adjust their operations. The Chuck & Brenda Silcox Center on Martin Street and Henry’s Animal Campus on Hillshire Drive will both be closed on June 19. However, people interested in adopting pets will still have options, as the PetSmart Everyday Adoption Centers located at Alliance and Hulen will remain open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Library visitors should also plan ahead. Every location within the Fort Worth Public Library system will be closed for the holiday, meaning no library services will be available that day.

Several recreational facilities will also shut their doors. Community centers throughout the city, along with Haws Athletic Center and Log Cabin Village, will be closed. At the same time, residents looking for outdoor activities will still have access to certain amenities. Meadowbrook, Rockwood Park, and Pecan Valley golf courses will remain open. McLeland Tennis Center, as well as the pools at Marine Park and Forest Park, will also welcome visitors on June 19.

The city’s Water Department will continue providing support through its automated systems. Residents needing to make payments, check account information, or report emergencies can use the department’s 24-hour call center.

Public transportation services will operate under a modified schedule. Trinity Metro buses and On-Demand paratransit services will follow Sunday schedules during the holiday. Meanwhile, Trinity Metro TEXRail, Trinity Railway Express, and On-Demand rideshare services will continue operating on their normal schedules. TRE LINK and the CentrePort Circulator will also run as usual.

Customer service phone lines for Trinity Metro will remain available from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the ticket sales kiosk at Fort Worth Central Station will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As Fort Worth marks Juneteenth, city leaders encourage residents to review service schedules ahead of time and plan accordingly to avoid any inconvenience during the holiday.
