The inquiry centers on concerns that Lululemon, a brand widely associated with wellness and performance, may not be fully transparent about what is contained in its clothing. The company, which generated more than $11 billion in fiscal year 2025, has built its identity around health-conscious living, sustainability, and high-performance materials. However, recent questions raised by emerging research and consumer concerns have prompted closer scrutiny from state officials.
Focus on chemicals and product safety claims
At the heart of the investigation is whether Lululemon’s apparel contains PFAS, often referred to as “forever chemicals.” These substances are known for their durability and resistance to water and stains, but they have also been linked to potential health risks, including endocrine disruption, infertility, and certain forms of cancer.
Officials are examining whether these types of chemicals may be present in products sold to consumers who may not expect them, especially given the company’s marketing focus on wellness and sustainability. The Attorney General’s Office is also reviewing Lululemon’s internal policies, including its Restricted Substances List, its testing methods, and its supply chain practices. The goal is to determine whether the company’s products meet the safety standards it claims to uphold.
The investigation will look at whether there is a gap between how products are advertised and what they may actually contain. For many consumers, the brand represents a lifestyle tied to health and well-being, which raises concerns if materials used in production could pose risks.
Attorney General Paxton made his position clear as the investigation moves forward. “Americans should not have to worry if they are being deceived when trying to make healthy choices for themselves and their families,” said Attorney General Paxton. “I will not allow any corporation to sell harmful, toxic materials to consumers at a premium price under the guise of wellness and sustainability. If Lululemon has violated Texas law, it will be held accountable.”
The outcome of the investigation could have wider implications, not only for Lululemon but also for how companies market health-focused products. As consumer awareness grows, scrutiny over product claims and ingredient transparency is expected to increase, placing greater pressure on brands to align their messaging with reality.
