Tarrant County commissioner invites residents to 3rd Annual Kidney Wellness and Health Expo

Arlington, Texas – Tarrant County residents will have an opportunity to take charge of their health at a free community event focused on early detection, prevention, and wellness. Precinct 2 Commissioner Alisa Simmons, in collaboration with several health and community partners, is hosting the 3rd Annual Kidney Wellness and Health Expo this March.
The event is presented in partnership with the National Kidney Foundation Serving Texas, UT Southwestern Moncrief Cancer Institute, Tarrant County Public Health, and the Mid-Cities (Texas) Chapter of The Links, Inc. Organizers say the expo is designed to provide accessible health services, education, and resources for families across the county.
Free screenings and preventive care for the community
The Kidney Wellness and Health Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Tarrant County Sub-Courthouse, located at 700 E. Abram St. in Arlington. The family-friendly event will offer free kidney disease screenings and breast cancer screenings, low-cost flu shots, preventive health education, and a comprehensive community resource fair.
Commissioner Simmons shared her personal motivation for hosting the event, stating, “I’m a chronic kidney disease patient. So, this effort is very important to me. Too many people are walking around with kidney disease and unaware they have it until they’re in advanced stages and need a transplant. Early detection is critical to prevent this from happening.”
Chronic kidney disease affects an estimated 35 million adults in the United States. Health experts note that individuals of African American, Hispanic, Native American, Asian, and Pacific Islander descent face increased risk due to higher rates of high blood pressure and diabetes. The expo aims to connect residents with physicians, nurses, social workers, and diet experts who specialize in kidney disease detection and prevention, helping individuals better understand their health risks and options.
In addition to screenings, the event will feature kidney-healthy food samples, educational sessions, and community resource vendors. Families can enjoy a KidsZone, complimentary lunch, and a welcoming environment designed to promote wellness and community engagement.
Residents are encouraged to register in advance, or by calling (817) 248-6099. Organizers hope the event will empower attendees with knowledge, early detection opportunities, and resources to support long-term health and well-being.
