According to the City of Fort Worth, design submissions for the contest must be completed and entered by Wednesday, March 25. The event invites creative minds to think differently about waste and recycling by designing clothing or accessories made primarily from materials that might otherwise be thrown away.
Turning Trash Into Fashion
The concept behind the Trashion Fashion Show is simple but imaginative. Participants must create original clothing pieces or accessories using materials that have been reclaimed, reused, or discarded. In order to qualify for the contest, each design must be made with at least 50 percent trash or recyclable materials.
Once a design is finished, contestants must take a photograph of their creation and submit it online through the official Trashion Fashion Contest form. The design can be modeled by the creator, a friend, or a family member. Participants may also choose to photograph the design on its own.
The competition is open to designers across a wide range of ages and experience levels. Organizers say the goal is not only to celebrate creativity but also to raise awareness about recycling and sustainability.
Contest entries will be divided into two age-based groups. The youth category is open to participants 17 years old and younger, while the adult category includes designers 18 years old and older.
Individuals can enter the competition alone, but collaboration is also encouraged. Designers are allowed to compete either individually or as part of a team with up to five people working together on a design.
Judges will review the submitted entries and select winners in several categories. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded in both the youth and adult divisions. In addition to those main awards, organizers will also recognize special achievements with honorable mentions for categories such as most reused material, most creative material, and most varied materials.
All designers who submit entries will also be invited to take part in a special public celebration later in the year. Participants will have the chance to attend the 2026 Earth Party at Trinity Park, where they will be able to walk the catwalk and showcase their designs in front of the community.
The fashion show portion of the celebration will take place following the Cowtown Great American Cleanup, an annual event focused on improving the environment and encouraging community involvement in keeping Fort Worth clean.
City officials say the contest offers a fun and imaginative way to highlight recycling, creativity, and environmental awareness. By turning everyday waste into fashion pieces, designers can show how discarded materials can be repurposed into something completely new and unexpected.
