Fort Worth recognizes outstanding neighborhoods and community leaders at annual awards ceremony

Fort Worth, Texas – Residents, city leaders, and neighborhood associations came together for the 2024 Mayor’s Neighborhood Awards, an event that celebrated the achievements of Fort Worth communities while fostering engagement and collaboration. The ceremony honored neighborhood associations and individuals for their contributions to beautification, crime prevention, wellness, civic engagement, and community spirit.
With a focus on encouraging residents to take an active role in improving their communities, the awards recognized groups and individuals who have gone above and beyond to enhance their neighborhoods. This year’s ceremony also introduced a new category that acknowledged distinguished veterans for their service.
Honoring Neighborhood Excellence
Among the most anticipated awards of the event was Neighborhood of the Year, which went to Lake Como NAC (D6) for its outstanding community efforts. Glen Crest Civic League (D8) and West Meadowbrook (D8 & D11) were named first and second runners-up, respectively.
Another prestigious award, Fort Worth Pride, was awarded to Rosemont NA (D9 & D11) for its exceptional neighborhood initiatives. Lake Como NAC (D6) secured first runner-up, while Ridglea Hills NA (D3) took second runner-up.
The Spirit of Fort Worth Award, which recognizes neighborhoods that showcase strong community spirit and resilience, saw a tie this year. Both West Meadowbrook NA (D8 & D11) and Vista West HOA (D7) were declared winners. Lake Como NAC (D6) took first runner-up, while Carter Riverside NA (D11) finished as second runner-up.
Recognizing Leadership and Community Service
The event also honored individuals and organizations that have made a significant impact on their communities.
The Civic Engagement & Collaboration Award went to Glencrest Civic League NA (D8) for its leadership in uniting residents for collective action. Lake Como NAC (D6) and Ridglea Hills NA (D3) were recognized as the first and second runners-up.
In the Health & Wellness category, Garden of Eden NA (D11) received the top honor, with Westcliff & Westcliff West NA (D3) taking second runner-up.
City employees who have made exceptional contributions to neighborhood safety were also recognized. Marissa Rodriguez of Highland Hills NA (D8) was named Code Officer of the Year. The title of Neighborhood Police Officer of the Year resulted in a tie between Percy Holland, who serves Chisholm Trail Ranch HOA & Llano Springs HOA (D6), and Ralph Salazar, who works with Stockyards Inc. (D2).
Recognizing Service to Veterans and Trailblazers
For the first time, the awards included a Distinguished Service to Veterans category, highlighting organizations and individuals committed to supporting veterans. The Airpower Foundation was named the Organization Winner, while CLC Inc. secured the runner-up position. Among individuals, Christine Willesen was awarded Individual Winner, and Megan Heil was named Individual Runner-up.
Another standout award, the Danny Scarth Trailblazer Award, was presented to Mike Wyss for his dedication to improving Fort Worth communities through innovation and leadership.
Celebrating the People Who Make a Difference
The Neighbor of the Year Award, which recognizes residents who go the extra mile to support their neighborhoods, was awarded to Janet Williamson of Westcliff & Westcliff West NA (D3). Gladys McBride of Lake Como NAC (D6) was named first runner-up, and Trina Sanders of Garden of Eden NA (D11) finished as second runner-up.
Community newsletters were also acknowledged for their role in keeping residents informed and engaged. Ryan Place Improvement NA (D9) took home the Newsletter Award, followed by Eastern Hills NA (D11) in second place and Carter Riverside NA (D11) in third.
Strengthening Fort Worth’s Communities
The 2024 Mayor’s Neighborhood Awards once again highlighted the dedication and efforts of Fort Worth’s residents and organizations in making their communities safer, stronger, and more connected. Through these awards, the city continues to encourage collaboration and civic engagement, reinforcing the value of neighborhood-led initiatives in shaping the future of Fort Worth.
