City of Fort Worth issues warning after fake Water Utility employee incidents in Llano Springs

Fort Worth, Texas – Fort Worth city officials are urging residents to be on high alert after reports surfaced of a person pretending to be a Water Utility employee to gain access to homes. The incidents occurred in the Llano Springs neighborhood, where a man wearing a shirt with a City of Fort Worth logo allegedly told residents he needed to inspect a water leak.
City officials stress that “Fort Worth Water employees never need to access a resident’s home to check for a leak, check water pressure or sample water quality.” Entry into a home is only needed in rare cases when a resident has already reported an issue requiring further investigation.
Authorities are asking residents to take immediate action if confronted with a similar situation. The City advises anyone who encounters a suspicious person posing as a City worker to call the police right away and also report the incident to Fort Worth Water at 817-392-4477.
Residents Advised to Remain Cautious
The city warns that this is not the first time impostors have posed as municipal employees. In the past, scammers have used various tactics to gain trust and entry, including telling residents they were due a refund and asking for change for a $100 bill. In one such instance, the victim was robbed after allowing the individual inside. In another, the impostor ransacked the home once inside.
Officials emphasize that “individuals falsely claiming to be City employees are committing fraud,” and they urge residents not to let their guard down, even if the person appears to be wearing official-looking clothing or carrying identification.
The City of Fort Worth remains committed to public safety and urges all residents to remain cautious and vigilant, especially when dealing with anyone requesting entry to their home without prior notice or valid reason.
