Fort Worth to host annual Tunnels to Towers 5K Run & Walk honoring Officer Garett Hull and fallen heroes

Fort Worth, Texas – The city of Fort Worth is once again preparing to come together in remembrance and solidarity at the upcoming Tunnels to Towers (T2T) Fort Worth 5K Run & Walk, set for Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. The event was established in 2019 to honor the memory of Fort Worth Police Officer Garett Hull, who was killed in the line of duty on September 14, 2018.

Following Officer Hull’s passing, the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation stepped in to pay off his family’s mortgage, an act of compassion that not only offered relief to his grieving loved ones but also inspired the launch of the annual Fort Worth run. Today, this event is one of over 70 held nationwide, bringing together people from all walks of life to honor the sacrifice of first responders and military service members.

Honoring Service and Sacrifice

The opening ceremony for this year’s 5K will begin at 8 a.m., with the run and walk officially starting at 8:45 a.m. Participants will start and finish at 140 E. Exchange Avenue, the heart of the Fort Worth Stockyards. The event is expected to draw hundreds of runners, walkers, and supporters, all uniting under the T2T mission to remember the fallen and support the living.

The Tunnel to Towers Run & Walk series was originally created to honor the legacy of Stephen Siller, a New York firefighter who gave his life on September 11, 2001. After strapping on more than 60 pounds of gear, Siller ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center, where he died trying to save others.

The foundation that bears his name now supports four core programs designed to help heroes and their families:

  • Smart Home Program: Provides mortgage-free smart homes for catastrophically injured military members. Sixteen Texas servicemembers have already benefited.

  • Fallen First Responder Home Program: Offers mortgage payoffs or financial support to families of first responders killed in the line of duty. Thirty-one Texas families have been assisted.

  • Gold Star Family Home Program: Builds or pays off mortgages for families of military personnel killed in combat, including 22 Texas families so far.

  • Homeless Veteran Program: Provides housing and support services to ensure no veteran is left homeless. Over 10,000 veterans have received help nationwide.

By participating in the Fort Worth 5K, residents will be contributing to these life-changing efforts, showing support for local heroes and standing with families whose lives were forever changed by service and sacrifice.

More information about the event and foundation is available through the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
